The Story Behind the Trophy Trout Project

The Shaver Lake Trophy Trout Project is a non-profit organization that began with several long time fishermen meeting in 2008. Led by Captain Jack Yandell and Dick Nichols, these men and women had a vision to make Shaver Lake a popular and well known Trophy Trout Destination.

From that first meeting, the vision has grown to provide fishermen, both young and old, with education on fishing and to provide an excellent fishing experience for those that may have never enjoyed a day of fishing under the beautiful Sierra skies.

Is there a better way to spend a day? Is it not exciting to try and outwit that tasty trout?

John Steinbeck is quoted as saying “It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming.”

We would like to introduce and educate fishing to all - for those who already loved to fish and for those who have not yet experienced the joy of fishing.

One desire of the group is in "Providing A Trophy Trout Experience For All, For Generations to Come".
Over $85,000 has been invested in Trophy Trout over the past eight years. Most donations have come from Central Valley anglers.

We are actively seeking major corporate sponsorships. Why not partner with us in further developing Shaver Lake as a world class fishing destination as well as support our various community outreach programs.

Our future plans include planting trophy trout each year and to continue and increase our education programs to reach out to more people. We have already seen some of our vision come true - with plantings of trophy trout - that were bought with donations from people like you.

We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9:00 am at Tiffany Pines at Camp Edison in Shaver Lake CA. If you are coming from the community of Shaver Lake, just head toward Camp Edison. Take a right turn at the driveway that is about a quarter mile from the Camp Edison turn. The meeting will be in one of the Southern California Edison trailers at that location.
